Answer

The Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC) was established in 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron and United Nations Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions Michael R. Bloomberg. Chaired by Mary Schapiro, the CDSC brings together global policymakers, regulators and international organizations, informed by data providers and civil society, to improve access to standardized climate data.

The CDSC works to ensure that key company-level data disclosed by the private sector is accessible for use by a broad set of stakeholders, including through the development of the Climate Data Utility.

In November 2022, the CDSC published Recommendations for the Development of the Net-Zero Data Public Utility (now the Climate Data Utility). The CDSC makes recommendations on the ongoing development of the Climate Data Utility, informed by the Climate Data Expert Advisory Panel (CDEAP), chaired by the UNFCCC and consisting of civil society organizations and other experts on climate data, and a Technical Advisory Board (TAB) that provides their expertise to the Climate Data Utility. The CDSC also seeks input, ideas, and expertise through outreach to relevant stakeholders and public consultation and will consider further recommendations to enhance the Utility.
