Answer

A data model is a representation of data elements that exist in a specific database or information system and the connections between them. The purpose is to organize the set of data elements, illustrating the different types of data used and how they are stored and retrieved.

The Climate Data Utility maps all data sources on the Utility to the Climate Data Utility's Core Model. The current version of the Core Data Model includes a foundational set of fields related to direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2 and Scope 3) GHG emissions, financed emissions, non-financial corporate GHG emissions reduction targets, and supporting metadata, as recommended by CDSC.

Calculation metadata, such as data on organizational boundaries, exclusions, and methodologies augment transparency around disclosed fields. It also allows for greater transparency around discrepancies in reporting due to the use of different methodologies and frameworks.

For some sources on the Utility, such as those from jurisdictions, a source-specific data model may also be available as the default model displayed to reflect the original form of disclosures.
